1952 Hudson Hornet

This 1952 Hudson Hornet is the sole-surviving, authenticated Fabulous Hornet race car that dominated NASCAR from 1951 to 1954 when Hornets won 78 of the 139 races. This car was owned and driven by Herb Thomas who was NASCAR Champion in 1951 and 1953. Herb Thomas captured 15 wins as well as the 1953 championship with #92. The title of the “Fabulous Hudson Hornet” was given to the car by stock car racers praising the car’s great handling and roadworthiness.  Thomas purchased a replacement car in 1954 leaving this 1952 model to be sold as a used car. After years of storage and multiple owners, it was eventually discovered and restored to its original beauty.  This “Fabulous Hudson Hornet” and its driver Herb Thomas are believed to be the inspiration for the character and story of Doc Hudson in the 2006 Pixar film “Cars.” This car holds many titles and honors including induction into the Historic Vehicle Registry and the opportunity to display at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
